CONCEPT

SHIKANKO dates back to 1813, when the Kabuki actor Nakamura Utaemon the third opened a store across from the Daimaru kimono store in Shinsaibashi, Osaka, selling “SHIKANKO” Bintsuke oil.
Later, while keeping close to the aesthetic sense of each era, the company expanded its business to cosmetic tools such as eyebrow wax, white powder, hairpins, and combs, and in the Meiji period, expanded to women's goods using tortoiseshell and coral.
Now, two centuries after our founding, we are returning to our roots.
In order to shed new light on the world of Kabuki, the foundation of Shibawanka, we signed a licensing agreement with Shochiku and developed watches, rings, and necklaces designed in the motif of “Kumadori,” the symbol of Kabuki.
This is a new challenge where tradition and innovation resonate.
The sense of beauty that has been passed down over the past 200 years is now being passed on once again.
Wearing tradition, for you.

WATCH
A special piece that brings craftsmanship to life.
The dials of DENSHO -tradition- are all hand made by maki-e craftsmen in Noto. Maki-e is a traditional Japanese craft. The maki-e craftsmen, who have inherited this delicate and beautiful technique, carefully finish each dial one by one, creating a timeless art form.
However, the Noto earthquake that occurred on New Year's Day, 2024, caused extensive damage to many maki-e makers.Through the DENSHO -tradition- project, SHIKANKO will continue to support the revival of artisans affected by the disaster, and will continue to promote the charm and value of maki-e, which Japan prides itself on, to the world.
The weight of tradition and the thoughts of the craftsmen that go into each piece of work.
Its beauty on your arm.

JEWELRY
DENSHO -tradition- Silver Jewelry Series
This series is based on the image of “Sujiguma,” which symbolizes the strength and spirit of kabuki, and sublimates Japanese spirituality and formative beauty into jewelry.
The straight, sharp forms and powerfully engraved lines that sculptures to capture the tension of an actor on the stage.
The contrast between the dignified brilliance of the silver material and the polished/matte finish enhances the sense of beauty of each wearer.SHIKANKO's goal was not to be mere decoration, but rather “entertainment to be worn.
A new form of “tradition” that fuses the classic with the modern.
